According to our sources, the youth of the Obuasi and it environs has taken to the demonstrating over high unemployment rate.
The youth blame the management of Anglogold Ashanti Obuasi mine for failing to employ them. They are therefore demanding parcel of land from the company so they can mine on it and create employment for themselves.
They intend to petition the management of the company of their intention as part of the demonstration process. Additionally, the demonstration was accompanied by the police ensuring peaceful demonstration.
Normally, as part of the mining company social responsibility, the inhabitants of the mine site are supposed to be employed and so if it is not actually done some of these demonstrations may be occurring continuously.
