(Barcelona’s new head coach, Quique Setien)
Barcelona has appointed formal Real Betis boss, Quique Setien, as their new head coach after parting ways with Ernesto Valverde on Monday.
Valverde, 55, who had steered the club to two consecutive disappointing Champions League display after being eliminated in the Knock stages by Roma and Liverpool losing way from home to the clubs.
WHO IS QUIQUE SETIEN?
Quique Setien is a formal professional footballer who played as a central midfielder. He was born on 27 September 1958.
During his playing days, he was nicknamed El Maestro, as he is best known for his spell at Racing Santander, finishing his 19years career at club after playing 375 matches and scoring 58 goals over 15 seasons. He represented the Spanish National team on three occasions as a player.
He started his coaching career in 2001 and has managed several clubs including his boyhood club, Racing.
On 26 May 2017, he was appointed head coach of Real Betis leading the club to their highest finish since 2005 and to the Copa del Rey Semifinals before leaving in May.

Setien managed lower sides before being appointed by UD Las Palmas in 2015 at a time the club was battling with relegation. He led the club to safety after finishing 11th place. Due to disputes with the board of the Canary Island club, the 61-year-old left the club in May 2017.
In the same month, he was appointed the head coach of Real Betis and led the club to the sixth position with subsequent qualification to the group stages of the UEFA Europa League.
In his last season at Betis, he led the club to wins over Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid before being sacked in May 2019.
Quique Setien arrivals in Barcelona has a high profile coach who has transformed teams like Las Palmas and Real Betis. He was once linked with a move to Barcelona in January 2019 but has finally been appointed as their head coach.
He will be unveiled today at 13:30 GMT as he has agreed to a two and half year deal with the club.
Despite the Catalan club approached club icon Xavi and Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman, it comes as no surprise since Setien is a devout disciple of Cruyffian football and the right man to return Barcelona to the ‘Barca football’.
