Marcus Rashford, 22, was forced to leave the pitch in the 80th minutes after playing 16 minutes due to injury concern and will now be assessed before their Anfield game on Sunday.
The England International picked a back injury in their FA Cup third-round replay against Wolves at Old Trafford before being replaced in the 80th minutes.
Manchester United Boss, Ole Gunner Solskjaer, after the match disclosed to the media that Rashford “couldn’t run.”
“He’ll be tested in the next few days – we have to see for Sunday,” added the Norwegian.
Though Rashford was introduced in the second half, he was in involved in the only goal of the night as Mata converted Anthony Martial’s pass to secure United’s qualification to the next round of the competition.
Red Devils boss believes that his decision to bring on the Forward “backfired’ despite his involvement in the goal.
Rashford posted on Twitter after the match expressing his regret for leaving the pitch earlier than expected.
“Never want to feel like I’ve let my teammates, the club and most importantly the fans down so did my very best to carry on tonight and was gutted to come off,” he said.
Solskjaer’s side plays away to league leaders Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield. Rashford’s absence would be a huge blow for the Devils since the forward is the club’s top scorer in the league this season scoring 14 times.
