The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kyerematen made known that the government going to International Monetry Fund(IMF) will not necessary create prosperity but will provide stabilization, balance of payment and liquidity support.
“The IMF itself cannot create prosperity for us, however, it comes in purely for stabilisation, balance of payment and liquidity support,” Mr. Alan Kyerematen said at a meeting with businessmen and captains of industry in Accra.
He sought to explain that it will help the government to be financially disciplined. He ,however, in assurance to Ghanaians says government seeks to make negotiations with the IMF in the best interest of Ghana as negotiations with IMF starts this week.
Mr. Ken Ofori Atta, Minister of Finance is expected to lead the negotiations as the President Akuffo Addo has mandated him to lead the negotiation team for Ghana. President Akuffo ordered Economic Management team to seek IMF bail out when the e-levy did not work yield meaningful revenue. Most Ghanaians were and are against the rate of the e-levy and calls for its reduction or being scrapped off. Some sections of Ghanaians calls for the reinstatement of the road toll. as well.
