Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president of the republic Ghana is a renowned economist and in respect of the most recent demonstration dubbed ‘kum yen Preko’ had made comparisms of what his New Patriotic Party(NPP) government have and are doing with the past National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia,

  1. “NDC cancelled teachers training allowances, NPP restored teachers training allowances
  2. NDC cancelled Nursing training allowances, NPP restored teachers Nursing training allowances
  3. There was no free SHS at the government of NDC,NPP introduced free SHS
  4. No jobs program for Graduate unemployed, NPP brought Nation Builders Corp for 100,000 graduates
  5. With NDC,there was no subsidized fertilizer program for food crop farmers, NPP subsidized fertilizer program for food crop farmers under planting for food and jobs
  6. NDC increased taxes, NPP has reduced 17 taxes or abolished
  7. NDC increased import duty, NPP has reduced import duty by 50%
  8. NDC’s 4 years of systematic dumsor, with NPP there is no dumsor
  9. NDC’s cumulative increase in electricity tariff by 226.2%, NPP net cumulative reduction in electricity tariffs by 6.3% for residential and 18.8% for non-residential consumers
  10. NDC-Freeze on public sector employment under the IMF program,NPP-350,000 recruited into the public sector in two and half years
  11. NDC-clearing goods at the port cumbersome,NPP-paperless system has improved efficiency and speed of clearing goods
  12. NDC-getting a driver licence was difficult, with ‘goro’ boys as middlemen, NPP-digitization has improved the speed and process of getting a drivers licence
  13. NDC-getting a passport was difficult,with ‘goro’ boys dominating, digitization has improved the speed and process of getting a passport
  14. NDC- share of DACF for persons with disabilities was 2%, NPP-share of DACF for persons with disabilities increased by 50%
  15. NDC-Capitation grant was GHC4.50, NPP- Capitation grant is GHC10
  16. NDC-No programmes for zongos and inner cities, NPP-Zongo Development Fund established
  17. NDC- 78 rural communities connected to telephone network in 8 years, NPP- 400 rural communities connected to telephone network in 2 years
  18. NDC-inflation in 2016 was 15.4%, NPP-inflation is currently 9.5%
  19. NDC-cumulative exchange rate depreciation between 2012-2016 was 61%,NPP-cumulative exchange rate depreciation between 2017 and 2019(current) is 16%
  20. NDC-Bank Lending Rates in 2016 averaged 32% NPP-Bank Lending Rates in 2019 averaged 27%
  21. NDC-waiting for days to renew NHIS card under virtual cash and carry,NPP- NHIS card now be renewed from a mobile phone instantly under a revived NHIS
  22. NDC-management took management to IMF, NPP- our management took Ghana away from the IMF”
